The Japanese brand Uniqlo has set up on the site of the Société des Cendres in a building that stretches back 60 metres and which has been completely redesigned by the architect Pierre Audat. In 1859 during the Second Empire jewellers, silversmiths, watchmakers and other users of precious metals set up a system for treating the waste of their travails which often contained recoverable materials. The 30 metre high chimney is symbolic of the space and now, thanks to Uniqlo the site is once again open to the public. Come here to shop, or just to see this extraordinary example of industrial architecture which is explained in a section that has been curated by Pierre Audat and Sophia Boudou.
