Eight years after its high pro le opening the Val-de-Marne Museum of Contemporary Art has well and truly established its reputation. The Mac/Val embodies the cultural dynamism of a progressive city outskirt, heralding before its time the arrival of Greater Paris. Today an important address for contemporary creation, its collections cover French art from 1950 to today. Renovated by Charles Ripault, the linear geometry of the 13,000 sqm building highlights the work of Annette Messager, Christian Boltanski, Cyprien Gaillard, and Claude Lévêque… Black, white, brown parquet, sand coloured concrete, the soberness of the architecture matches the philosophy of the place: art accessible to all.
