COMME DES GARÇONS
Built in 1999 and renovated in 2008 according to Rei Kawakubo’s own global concept, Comme des Garçons’ Parisian address is as controversial as ever by the mere fact of joining together an old and a new building. Producing a jarring effect, the interior spaces juxtapose with exterior areas, creating an impact that is almost identical to that of discovering new clothes. Passing under the red fibreglass wave, produced in the shipyards of southern England, everyone feels transported into another world. Across the courtyard, two new spaces hold the collections by Junya Watanabe Man, and the Trading Museum, completing the whole.
