The mythical Louxor cinema reopened in 2013 with the help of two associations, one from the 10th arrondissement and one from the Barbès district. Once renovated, all that remained from the original were the mosaic on the façade and three seats on the second balcony. However, the architect and designer Philippe Pumain cleaned back the carved granite and restored the décor in the main auditorium to as close as the original as was possible. Two new theatres were designed in a resolutely contemporary and sober aesthetic: LED lights are dotted around a virtual papyrus in the smaller room, a star studded Egyptian blue ceiling covers the larger theatre. The bar on the balcony level looks out on the city below.
